Carbon Beach House Kovac

kovac design studio

Principal and Founder of Kovac Design Studio, Michael Kovac was born into an Air Force family in coastal Maine. His upbringing afforded him extensive travels as a child, including long stays in Okinawa, Japan. This early exposure to non-Western cultures, aviation, and aircraft would later go on to subtly inform his work.

“We did a lot of research on how we could get this pattern, but then budget reality intruded.” A solution came when they looked up, noticing the material of the conference room ceiling in their office. The result is striking in the desert’s penetrating light, casting dappled shadows on the sand-colored walls and poured concrete floors and living up to its inspiration—Jean Nouvel’s Louvre Abu Dhabi. In the evening, a programmed lighting system by Lux Populi synced to sundown slowly brings up the warm lights embedded in the canopy, creating a candlelit glow from above. The back of the house is composed of nearly frameless motorized glass doors that perfectly frame the landscape and retract to make the most of indoor/outdoor living when the pool or views beckon.

Outside, Gloster sectionals, a firepit, William Haines Malibu Chairs, and a bespoke Cremo Delicato marble dining table that seats twelve complete the outdoor living area. Inside the house, warm tones, midcentury furniture, and tactile fabrics predominate, from the bronze mesh curtains to a sprawling velvet Patricia Urquiola Tufty Time sofa to the vintage Pierre Paulin chairs reupholstered in wool. The walls are made of integral plaster in a shade that was developed on-site by looking at the colors of the desert, because “big expanses of white plaster become fatiguing,” Kovac says. Indoor-outdoor fabrics were also specified in many places, given the easy back-and-forth between poolside and inside when the back wall is left open, as it is most of the time. For Todd Feldman, a film and television agent at Creative Artists Agency, it was not having to choose. Photovoltaic panels provide for nearly all of the house’s power needs, while a green roof insulates the home and mitigates storm water runoff.

Each casita boasts its own private patio and firepit enclosed by a wood-clad wall that can retract to connect to the neighboring casita for easy socializing. Each also includes its own bath with an indoor/outdoor shower and mini-fridge and bar so guests can enjoy a drink without going to the main house whenever a private escape is wanted. The home’s natural palette of plaster, wood, and stone underscores the surrounding landscape with which it intertwines. There is no better place for an escape from the stresses of daily life - it is a true oasis in the desert.

Downstairs, there’s a generous gym with adjacent massage studio and locker room. But the main event is a six-bed, walnut-paneled bunk room, beloved by Feldman’s nine-year-old son but also fun for adult slumber parties. (Every bunk is outfitted with a charging port, a reading light, and a beverage shelf.) “It can be juice boxes or rosé in the fridge down there,” says Feldman, depending on the age of the guests in residence. The five-part ensemble is tied together by the 5,000-square-foot sunshade, made of panels of an off-the-shelf aluminum foam product originally developed as an acoustic material. “We hoped initially to do a canopy modeled on a cholla cactus skeleton,” Kovac says.

The entrance to the home brings visitors past a reflecting pool, under a mesh-like canopy that shades the front door. "Upon arrival, one circles into the motor court and is greeted by a still dark water element that seems to rise from the ground, water shimmering down its sides," said the architects. In the bar tucked behind is an intimate conversation area complete with four vintage Pierre Paulin Groovy Chairs. Throughout the house, we worked around Lautner’s avant-garde engineering and sculptural applications of wood and concrete to carefully repurpose spaces to suit the client’s needs. Our changes included a new media room, enlarged bedrooms, home office, and chef’s kitchen. Some might say – don’t tamper with a John Lautner house, but the new owner, a longtime, passionate swimmer, wanted to add an indoor pool to this classic modernist beach home.

At the back of the large entertaining area, a glass wall with motorised panels can slide open, revealing vistas of the surrounding golf course and mountains beyond.

Located in La Quinta’s fabled Madison Club, this vacation home was designed as an interpretation of a boutique hotel for a sophisticated client who loves to entertain family and friends when in town. He sought to take maximum advantage of the dramatic desert views and, through the home’s interior design, pay homage to the Golden Hollywood era of nearby Palm Springs. These factors along with his love for indoor/outdoor living served as driving forces behind the project’s design and articulation.

Thus began a significant addition and interior remodel project where the great challenge lay in balancing client goals with the spirit of the original architect’s creation. Kovac’s family eventually settled in Las Vegas, from whence he left to attend the USC School of Architecture on a Trustee Scholarship. Upon graduating, Kovac worked in the office of notable modernist Jerrold Lomax before founding Kovac Architects - now Kovac Design Studio - in 1988 with commissions for high-end health clubs, commercial spaces, and detail-rich residences. His award-winning projects have been featured in publications such as Architectural Digest, Elle D cor, Dwell, Architectural Record, Design Milk, and the L.A. We firmly believe each space has its own sensibility — one shaped by people, place, and material. By listening and observing intently, we create spaces of connection with our surroundings, and with those around us.

Kovac Design Studio, a multidisciplinary architecture firm focused on the realization of personalized private residences, and mixed use spaces, recently designed itself a new office in Los Angeles, California. Designed as the home of Founder and Design Partner, Michael Kovac, Sycamore House serves as a laboratory for the studio’s ongoing research into sustainable architecture and a showcase for Kovac’s design philosophy. The home’s integration of environmental systems and green materials has made it one of the first residences in California to garner a LEED Platinum Certification. We replaced an awkward 1990’s addition, incongruent with the original Lautner residence, with a new indoor swimming pool that was designed to be largely indistinguishable to Lautner’s building.

Through dedicated leadership and an intimate knowledge of the local landscape and building codes, we help execute concepts into built spaces of enduring quality. Our partners have included John Pawson, Peter Zumthor, Vincent Van Duysen, Ferguson & Shamamian, Studio MK27, and Foster + Partners amongst others. Inside the home, the kitchen, great room, bar, and lounge are entirely open to one another, ideal for easy entertaining. A Tufty Time sectional by B&B Italia, Platner Easy Chairs by Knoll, and bespoke Armadillo rug furnish the great room and provide luxurious comfort to all who spend time in the main house.

Each has its own ensuite bathroom, private terrace and fire pit, and other features that enable those staying to be self-sufficient. This canopy, which is made of a stabilized aluminium foam manufactured by Alusion, spans the entire home, shading areas between the main central volume and five additional wings scattered around it. The home's boxy massing is arranged around a central, double-height volume that contains the kitchen, dining area, and plenty of lounge space. The Madison Desert Club residence is named after the exclusive golf club where the 9,220-square-foot (856-square-metre) home is located in La Quinta, California, near Palm Springs. In keeping with the modest scale of its neighbors, the house presents a single-story elevation to the street, while the view from below reveals a series of sculpted volumes cascading down toward Rivas Canyon.

The wall was back-painted to mimic the shallow waters of the Caribbean, which were the inspiration for this and several other unique elements in the home following owner and Kovac Founder and Design Partner Michael Kovac's trip to "The Baths" in the British Virgin Islands. The home's generous skylight boasts an impressive curvilinear form, which references the considerable airflow that graces the main living and dining space thanks to thoughtfully placed windows that allow for cross-breezes. Harrison will also curate a Podium exhibition themed “Master Works of Collectible Design, 1938-Present” that will showcase a selection of old and new works sourced from various galleries. Inspired by the city’s design heritage, the first Design Miami LA will run from May 16 to 20, and is one of the major announcements in this pivotal year, which marks the 20th anniversary since its first flagship fair launched in Miami. The new state-of-the-art, wake-free lap-pool is surrounded by retractable glazing which lets in natural light, and the ocean’s smells and sounds, blurring the boundaries between sea, house, and sky. “Inspired by the history of the building, the Kovac Design team reimagined the spaceby implementing an industrial palate and exposing the concrete floors, brick walls and ceiling beams. The original New England Divers outdoor signage was maintained, paying tribute to the space’s history. The home's interiors have a refined palette of wooden ceilings, rough plaster walls, and polished concrete floors. Unleashing Creativity: The Eclectic Interior Design Guide

eclectic design style

It is an intricate dance between old and new, bold and subdued, harmony and surprise, resulting in a living space that is uniquely reflective of its inhabitant’s soul. It’s not just design; it’s a personal declaration of independence from the expected, creating spaces that are as complex and fascinating as the lives lived within them. The magic of eclectic style lies in mixing elements that traditionally wouldn’t go together, yet sing in harmony in your space. Consider blending sumptuous textures with timeless neutrals or pairing vibrant hues with sleek, modern lines.

Rhythm and Repetition: The Symphony of the Space

Since founding her eponymous design firm in 2004, Carrie Livingston has been traveling the world, finding unique, one-of-a-kind pieces to create stunning residential and commercial projects globally. She works closely with clients to ensure the vision for each project is executed seamlessly, while attention to detail is never forgotten. Founded by Joshua Rose and Rafael Kalichstein originally as FORM, now known as Citizen Artist, the multidisciplinary design firm creates “artful designs rooted in consciousness, curiosity, and integrity”. Joshua and Rafael believe that good design makes the world a more beautiful place and aspire to the ideal of using their capacity to create work whose process and product both effect positive change. Passione is a custom residential and commercial interior design firm owned by Sue and Giampiero Capelli.

Different Styles of Furniture

Though it may seem like eclectic style should feel disjointed and a little chaotic, a successful decor scheme should actually feel unified, with every design decision being a very deliberate one. It doesn’t have to necessarily be full-on maximalism; eclectic decor can very much skew toward the subtle side, so long as it retains a mix of textures, patterns, and styles. Los Angeles-based designer Demitri Sgourakis works globally and is best known for his modern approach to eclectic interiors. His eye for fashion-forward style, combined with his deep knowledge and appreciation for the historical roots of design, result in fresh yet classic creations. Elizabeth Gordon, the eponymous high-end interior design firm’s founder, uses a mix of vintage and contemporary elements.

Still, it’s important to choose the main color that centers and balances it all, so the room looks put together instead of like storage space for things you had nowhere else to put. To inspire your next home makeover, we've rounded up some of our favorite examples of eclectic style in action. Maybe you can't decide whether your favorite type of decor is farmhouse rustic or midcentury modern. Eclectic style is a great way to define your home decor when it's a bit of, well, everything. Offering a full range of design services, JAC Interiors design studio brings vision and organizational skills to each project, making beautiful transformations happen. With comprehensive ingenuity, meticulous project management, and uncommon responsiveness, JAC co-founders Andrea Putman and Christine Thompson elevate environments with superior start-to-finish design.

This repeated color scheme acts as a visual connector, knitting together the space. While Pinterest, Instagram, and home decor magazines are rich sources of inspiration, it’s crucial to filter these ideas through your personal style lens. What works for one eclectic sanctuary may not resonate with yours, and that’s okay. It may sound counterintuitive, but harmonious disarray is at the heart of eclectic Design. Merging diverse elements in a single setting requires a unifying factor.

eclectic design style

Combining Textures

In a boutique hotel lobby, textured wallpaper might mirror the intricate patterns of the fabric on the furniture, while metal accents on the fixtures add a touch of modernity. Here, textural continuity helps in branding, providing guests with a memorable and unified aesthetic experience. The interplay between items from different design eras can be likened to a conversation at a diverse and lively dinner party, where each guest brings their unique history, stories, and charm to the table.

You want there to be enough going on visually in your space to keep the eye interested. A smart way to do this without being overt is to introduce different textures throughout the room in small doses. You may think these two styles are pretty similar and have trouble telling them apart. However, the one significant difference between the two is that eclectic style can incorporate bohemian elements, but it also includes things contrasting to them. On the other hand, bohemian style is centered around the use of natural fibers, colorful fabrics, and woven furniture, and generally evokes a feeling of comfort and effortlessness. That’s precisely the sort of mix-and-matching that builds an eclectic style living room.

Its minimalist yet compelling aesthetic has a timeless quality and continues to make waves globally. Far from being a fleeting fad, this design style has a lasting influence. Keep reading as we explore the subtleties that make Scandinavian interior design unique. Nonetheless, without a common link to bind diverse elements, your Design might symbolize disarray rather than fascination. A standard color, pattern, or texture can serve as this anchor, pulling together all pieces coherently. Each work of art warrants careful thoughtfulness, and eclectic interior Design is no exception.

Let's fill your home with wonders as we navigate the essential elements of eclectic style, ensuring your space is nothing short of a masterpiece. Bringing together different design periods is a hallmark of the eclectic style. Antique Victorian chairs can live harmoniously with a 21st-century modern desk, filling the room with engaging contrast. This fusion of eras can tell a captivating visual story unique to you. From bold color schemes and exotic patterns to unconventional accessories, the audacity often crowns eclectic interiors. Mitigating caution and welcoming design risks can lead to some real eureka moments for eclectic creators.

A Southern California native, Chris Barrett’s work is informed by the region she calls home. She applies her unique signature of fresh, open spaciousness to a wide spectrum of projects, ranging from a Manhattan penthouse to a modern villa in Cabo San Lucas, as well as a myriad of California locations. The designer also recently transformed a 1950s beachfront cottage in California into a bohemian retreat for her family. "My point of reference for the Proper Hotels is always the location, so Downtown LA Proper really called for bold and eclectic choices," she told Dezeen.

Plus, painted walls require less work than applying vibrant wall coverings. However, this doesn’t mean you only have one option – being white – dark and light colors work equally well. Darker colors add warmth and depth, while light colors will work to make any space appear larger and brighter to better highlight eclectic bohemian decor. In essence, eclectic design stands as a testament to the evolving nature of design itself.

You’ve probably heard of mid-century modern style, farmhouse style, and minimalist style when it comes to decor schemes. But what happens if you want a design aesthetic that combines elements of all of them—and maybe more? Now you’re talking about eclectic style, a bit of a catch-all category to describe interiors that don't fit neatly into just one style. It's a great way to decorate your home with things you love and show off what is important to you. Here, records act as wall art and really elevate the whole look and feel of the room. Amber Interiors is a full-service residential design firm founded by Amber Lewis, also the founder of the blog, All Sorts Of.

It requires a balance between cohesion and contrast, a dance between classic and contemporary. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll unveil the secrets to mixing and matching different design styles, creating a space that celebrates diversity and reflects your personal taste. So, the next time someone asks you about the essence of eclectic interior Design, tell them it’s an imaginative celebration of individuality, a refreshing riot of colors, textures, and styles.

Think shiny metals paired with worn wood or a luxurious velvet sofa in dialogue with a vintage leather chair. The high-contrast dialogue adds an unexpected charm to the design story narrated through the space. In the above dining room, New York's Mendelson Group calmed an otherwise raucous wallpaper with subtle details – like contemporary upholstery on the chairs, and a soft, solid grey rug – throughout the space. "I think what makes this dining room successful is the pairing of a graphic, scenic wall covering with simpler textiles and a table and chairs that are light and sculptural," says founder Gideon Mendelson.

Whether it's a small side chair, cozy lounge chair, or a full sofa, vintage pieces add warmth and wisdom to any room. They also work well with the other essential elements of this style (more of that to come) since they're bold, functional, comfortable, and totally unpretentious. It’s combining multiple styles to create a sophisticated yet personalized look. While that may sound like bohemian, there is a key difference between the two.

One lucky Barbie superfan will even get the chance the stay in the Barbie Dreamhouse, which will depend on which design duo wins the competition. “After all her travels, Barbie realized that Malibu is where her heart is and has decided to stay there in a newly renovated Dreamhouse! Barbie’s brand new 2013 Dreamhouse is now available at retailers nationwide for every girl who has always wanted a Dreamhouse of her own.

Where is the HGTV Barbie Dreamhouse?

Let me tell you how it all started… Barbie visited various locations throughout the United States to see where she would want to relocate. I guess she was getting bored being in Malibu all her life and needed a change of scenery. I was hoping she would find solace in NYC, because who wouldn’t, but after all her travels, Barbie decided to stay in Malibu because that is where her heart is.

From July 2021 to June 2022, home buyers were richer, whiter and older than they had been in decades. The share that were first-time homeowners was the lowest it’s been since at least 1981. And, the median home price exceeded $400,000 for the first time. To impress men, Ms. Brown instructed women on having a “wall of pictures,” a “sexy kitchen” and plenty of books — features found in Barbie’s townhouse. This was contrary to many early dollhouses, which were made with the intent of teaching young girls domestic tasks.

From the 60s inspired Barbie kitchen to the Ken's Den inspired by the 70s Barbie era, this house is a sight to see from top to bottom including the exterior. From what we've seen so far, it's nothing short of any Barbie lover's dream, but we expected nothing less from our favorite HGTV stars. I never had a Barbie Dreamhouse as a child, but I remember drooling over my friend’s extensive Barbie collection. Not only does the updated Dreamhouse have an elevator, but it has TWO working elevators!

The features that led them to choose this house include its two-story layout, the existing backyard pool, views of the surrounding area and a space that could easily be converted into Ken's Den. My daughter just LOVES the working elevator that can bring Barbie from the bottom floor all the way up to the third floor, and her clothes from the bathroom to the third floor as well, yep, two working elevators. This dreamhouse also comes complete with furniture, accessories, even a dog! I’d advise you to get a small baggy to let your little one store all of her Barbie pieces in.

It’s an Instagrammable approach to design and décor — a skill influencer Barbie perfected through her @barbiestyle Instagram account, with a following of over 2 million. “The size of the average American house rose from about 1,500 square feet in 1970 to more than 2,300 square feet in 2001, with a particularly big growth spurt” in the late 1990s, The Times reported. Barbie’s signature pink began increasingly popping up in the 1970s, part of Mattel’s effort to brand toys to stand out from competitors, said Mr. Burrichter. Though it might’ve been successful marketing, Mattel’s pink dousing would later be criticized for perpetuating gender stereotypes.

The year the house came out, Elliot Handler, Mattel’s president and husband of Barbie inventor Ms. Handler, told Time magazine how the company manufactured accessories that were part of the Barbie ecosystem in order to boost sales. “You get hooked on one and you have to buy the other,” he said. Now, Ms. Dalsing lives in Saint Joseph, Mo., in what she called her own dream house.

They used cheap fake grass — the higher quality fake grass appeared too realistic. As a child, Maddie Bone, a 28-year-old brand designer, was given a hand-me-down Dreamhouse from a family friend. She felt like she hit the jackpot — it was in mint condition, and it even came with furniture. Women made several economic and cultural strides throughout the 1990s. The median age women were getting married was trending upward, women’s labor force participation increased and the “girl power” movement, popularized by the Spice Girls, was taking off.

In 2015, she had new seven-room digs, complete with a garage for her convertible. The home’s glittery facade also spoke to the ethos of the McMansion, which prioritized showiness and size over quality or utility. Houseplants saw a bloom during the environmental movement of the 1970s when people filled their homes with macramé plant hangers and terrariums. Financial institutions frequently turned down mortgage applications for women without male co-signers when Mattel debuted the Dreamhouse in 1962, three years after Barbie shook up the toy world, arriving in a one-piece bathing suit and kitten heels. Take a stop-motion journey with the young, single homeowner of the Dreamhouse. The immersive activation — which is now open at Santa Monica Place — was imagined by live entertainment company Kilburn Live, Mattel, Inc. and global sports, fashion and events giant IMG.

The production also features a museum exhibit where guests can see how Barbie, her Dreamhouse and her various vehicles have evolved over the years. You can even see the Barbie doll that started it all, clad in a black and white striped swimsuit and her iconic ponytail. A few weeks ago my daughter and I had the opportunity to check out the Barbie is Moving tour in Times Square. She received the Barbie VIP treatment, complete with a fashion show, hand painting, and crafts.

After welcoming more than 100,000 guests at its Toronto location, World of Barbie made its U.S. debut Friday in Santa Monica. The first episode of the four-part series aired on July 16, and the subsequent three episodes will air the next three Sundays at 8 p.m. The book is being released in an edition of 200, with 50 collector’s editions available for the most ardent fans. 2013 Barbie Dreamhouse Review

Though feminism was now mainstream, some efforts to advance women’s rights were stalling. In 1982, the Equal Rights Amendment, which stated that rights “shall not be denied or abridged” on the basis of sex, fell three states short of being added to the Constitution. Cities were shrinking in size and wealth, as white flight followed desegregation efforts and more areas adopted the model of Levittown, a Long Island community of roughly 17,000 homes that look startlingly alike.

My husband looked at step one on the instructions and was a bit baffled. It’s important to note that the home isn’t actively for sale and is privately owned, so any speculation about its price is just that. In an interview, Kim Culmone, Mattel’s head of design for Barbie, said that apart from wheelchair accessibility, the Dreamhouse doesn’t reflect those identities.

Every time she remembered, she would mention how much she wanted a Barbie Dreamhouse and it wasn’t until FedEx showed up with the hot pink box that she realized she was getting it. I don’t think I have ever heard my daughter so excited, squealing with joy as the delivery man brought the giant play house inside. From the beginning, much of Barbie’s existence — her unrealistic physical proportions, the lack of racially diverse dolls, the toy’s reinforcing of gender roles — has been debated in jest and in seriousness. But her home, which has not been as publicly parsed or praised like the doll, has been a mirror for the various social, political and economic changes the rest of the country was experiencing. It has followed housing patterns and trends, from chic, compact urban living to suburban sprawl to pure excess. At times, it has been out of step, ignoring the country’s ills (Barbie’s never been broke; she has never lost her house to foreclosure).

I was out that night and my husband texted me saying that he could not bring the Barbie Dream House inside without our daughter seeing it so he left it outside in the porch just like UPS man left it. So the next day after my son and her came back from the park we surprised her with the house. It wasn’t built yet but she could see from the detailed photograph on the box what it was. My husband helped her take all of the parts out of the box and the instructions. My 11 year old son came into the room and very nicely offered to assist my daughter in putting it together.

Let's not forget, according to Trulia's listing "this is the only home in Malibu with a self-flushing toilet and fireplace that crackles even when it's not on." Barbie’s body, careers, lifestyle and house — a hot pink monument of decadence and desire, now equipped with a swimming pool, slide and elevator — have all been qualities designed for children (and adults) to crave for themselves. Barbie has been the platonic ideal of what a young woman could and should be.

Many aspects of the house, including the floral imagery and its collagelike nature, are also reminiscent of the women-led Pattern and Decoration art movement. Designed to make women feel comfortable in a bar setting, they were filled with homey, domestic décor. While the toy’s debut could have been an act of feminist revolt, it was also about making money — perhaps primarily so.

“We got to pick everything out and give our daughters a nice, shiny, new home.” It’s also a ranch home, just like Barbie’s. The single bed and a framed photo of Ken further asserted that this was Barbie’s own, unshared domestic space. This practice, known as credit discrimination, wasn’t banned until 1974, when the Equal Credit Opportunity Act was passed. Many employers weren’t legally required to pay women equal salaries as men for the same work either, before the passage of the Equal Pay Act in 1963.

If she wasn’t a fan of Barbie before, she has definitely become one since spending the day learning about Barbie and playing with the various assortment of Barbie themed toys, such as MegaBloks, dress designing, and more. Overall my daughter really enjoyed and continues to enjoy her Barbie Dream House. She told my husband and I that she had been waiting for this house for like forever. The Barbie Dream House arrived on Friday afternoon but I didn’t want to give it to my daughter that evening since she would have never wanted to go to sleep.

But her wheelchair didn’t fit in the Dreamhouse elevator, and Barbie couldn’t go to the upper floors of her own home, just like versions of a doll that accompanied her and the Dreamhouse more than two decades earlier. Premarital sex became less stigmatized and a singles culture began to rise with the arrival of the sexual revolution, the F.D.A.’s approval of the birth control pill and the women’s movement. Ms. Brown’s book served as a guide for women looking to fulfill their newfound sexual freedom. To bring the doll’s world to cinematic life for the buzzy Hollywood movie “Barbie,” four life-size Dreamhouses were erected at studios in Britain, leading to a shortage in a supply of pink paint.

And after he showed me what was going on I agreed it was some kind of defect or misalignment with the plastic. This wasn’t a part that he had put together but a part that came pre-assembled. After a bit of time he did get the elevator to go up a bit but it still didn’t work properly. The 20,000 square-foot attraction allows fans to step inside Barbie's life-sized Dreamhouse, try on one of Barbie's careers for size and even get in the driver's seat of a Barbie Camper Van designed by West Coast Customs. After catching our first glimpse at HGTV's real-life Barbie Dreamhouse, we're all wondering where in the world is this house?

Shortly after they kicked my husband out of the room and told him that they would handle it. The home appears to be located on the block of Pacific Coast Highway. Estimates from the usual real estate listing sites vary pretty wildly. Zillow gives the home an estimated price tag of $5,347,400, Redfin‘s estimates comes in at $3,491,022, and Realtor.com give the most optimistic estimate at $7,277,000. Earlier this month, Airbnb revealed that guests can sign up to stay at the life-sized doll house, free of charge, as part of a promotion by Mattel. Mattel later redesigned the Dreamhouse elevator to accommodate the wheelchair.

Instead of moving, she decided to renovate her Dreamhouse, which is available at Walmart and retail stores nationwide for $184.99. The real estate firm evaluated the average sale price of comparable homes with similar amenities, and then added a 10% “premium” due to the home’s one-of-a-kind appearance and appeal. Malibu-based luxury real estate company RubyHome, has put the home’s price tag at $10 million — significantly higher than the estimates from the online real estate portals. Obviously, oceanfront property in one of America’s most desired enclaves is going to cost a pretty penny. But a gaudy manor inspired by the stylistic choices of a fashionista children’s doll is a bit of an unprecedented sale. To own a home at all, especially one with a three-story slide, can feel unattainable for most.
